2008 Summer Swim Team Practice Groups

All Practice Times and Groups and time requirements are subject to change as well as pool closings such as thunder storms.

Goals and Age group guidelines
USA Swimming Competitive Age Group Practice Groups (Winter Swim Team Members)

Eagles - (EAG) - (AGES PRIMARLY 13 and Up) (Ages may differ due to performance of child)
Practice is 60-70% focused on physical fitness & training for confidence and competence in events such as; 200 IM, 100 Fly, 100 Breast, 100 Back, 200 Free, & 500 Free. Swimmers must be proficient in all 4 strokes and turns.  30-40% of practices will be focused on proper swimming technique through performing drills, balance and comfort in water exercises, turns and starts.

Eagles are encouraged to utilize the YMCA Health and Fitness classes such as the following: Pilates, Yoga, and Fitness Yoga. For days and times download the Group Exercise Schedule in PDF

Performance Requirements: Make 4 of the following standards; 50FR–29, 100FR–1:04, 100BK–1:14, 100BR–1:24, 100FL–1:15, 200IM–2:42, 200FR–2:26, 500FR–6:20

Dry-Land Training Performance Requirements: Push Ups-30, Core Body-2min

Practice Attendance Requirements: 4 times a week

Required Practice Equipment: Positive Drive Training Fins, FINIS Sr & Jr Swimmer's Snorkel, Catalyst Paddles, Pull Buoy
(USA Swimming Membership Required)

Falcons - (FAL) - (AGES PRIMARLY 11-15) (Ages may differ due to performance of child)
Practice is 60-70% focused on physical fitness and training for confidence and competence in events such as; 100 IM, 200 IM, 50 Fly, 100 Fly, 50 Breast, 100 Breast, 50 Back, 100 Back, 100 Free, 200 Free, and 500 Free. 30-40% of practices will be focused on proper swimming technique through performing drills, balance and comfort in water exercises, turns and starts.

Swimming Performance Requirements: Make 3 of the following standards; 50FR–35, 100FR–1:17, 50BK–43, 50BR–46, 50FL–42, 100 IM 1:28, 200IM–3:20, 200FR–2:52, 500FR–7:40

Dry-Land Training Performance Requirements: Push Ups-25, Core Body-1:30

Practice Attendance Requirements: 3 times a week

Required Practice Equipment: Positive Drive Training Fins, FINIS Sr & Jr Swimmer's Snorkel, Catalyst Paddles, Pull Buoy
(USA Swimming Membership Required)

Competitive Age Group Practice Groups (Winter Swim Team Members)

Cheetahs - (CHE) - (AGES PRIMARLY 13 and Up) (Ages may differ due to performance of child)
Practice is 70% focused on physical fitness and training for confidence and competence in events such as; 200 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Fly, 100 Breast, 200 Breast, 100 Back, 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Free, and 500 Free. 30% of practices will be focused on proper swimming technique through performing drills, balance and comfort in water exercises, turns and starts.

Performance Requirements: Make 3 of the following standards; 50FR–33, 100FR–1:13, 100BK–1:20, 100BR–1:28, 100FL–1:23, 200IM–2:55, 200FR–2:30, 500FR–7:30

Dry-Land Training Performance Requirements: Push Ups-20, Core Body-1:00

Practice Attendance Requirements: 3 times a week

Required Practice Equipment: Positive Drive Training Fins, Catalyst Paddles, Pull Buoy

Roadrunners - (ROR) - (AGES PRIMARLY 11-13) (Ages may differ due to performance of child)
Practice is 50-60% focused on physical fitness and training for confidence and competence in events such as; 100 IM, 200 IM, 50 Fly, 50 Breast, 50 Back, 100 Free, and 200 Free. 40-50% of practices will be focused on proper swimming technique through performing drills, balance and comfort in water exercises, turns and starts. 

Swimming Performance Requirements: Make 3 of the following standards; 50 FR-38, 100FR–1:21, 50BK–44, 50BR–50, 50FL–45, 100 IM-1:37, 200IM–3:25

Dry-Land Training Performance Requirements: Push Ups-20, Core Body-1:00)

Practice Attendance Requirements: 2 times a week

Required Practice Equipment: Positive Drive Training Fins, Catalyst Paddles, Pull Buoy

Foxes - (FOX) - (AGES PRIMARLY 8-11) (Ages may differ due to performance of child)
Practice is 70-80% focused on physical fitness and proper swimming technique through performing drills, balance and comfort in water exercises, turns and starts.  20-30% is focused on training for confidence and competence in events such as; 100 IM, 50 Fly, 50 Breast, 50 Back, 100 Free, and 200 Free.

Performance Requirements: Make 3 of the following standards; 25FR-21, 50FR–48, 100FR–1:38, 25BK-23, 50BK–53, 25BR-25, 50BR–1:01, 25FL-23, 50FL–55, 100IM–1:55

Dry-Land Training Performance Requirements: Push Ups-15, Core Body-:45

Practice Attendance Requirements: 2 times a week

Required Practice Equipment: Positive Drive Training Fins

Rabbits - (RAB) - (AGES PRIMARLY 9 & Under) (Ages may differ due to performance of child)
Practice is 80-90% focused on physical fitness and proper swimming technique through performing drills, balance and comfort in water exercises, turns and starts.  10-20% is focused training sets. Most of the training is focused on kicking and kicking drills with the goal of being able to complete a 100IM and a 50 Free. 

Performance Requirements: Rabbits must be able to complete 2 of the 4 strokes for 25 yards without an infraction as well as the following performance standards: 25FR–31, 25 25BK-32, BR or FL-34

Dry-Land Training Performance Requirements: Push Ups-10, Core Body-:30

Practice Attendance Requirements: 2 times a week

Required Practice Equipment: Positive Drive Training Fins

Developmental Age Group Practice Groups

Take Your Mark - (TYM) - (AGES PRIMARLY 11 & Up) (Ages may differ due to performance of child)
Practice is 80-85% focused on proper swimming technique through performing drills, balance and comfort in water exercises, turns and starts. 15-20% is focused training sets. Most of the training is focused on kicking and kicking drills. There is no meet requirements or team expectations.

Performance Requirements: Pre-Competitive Swimmers must be able to swim 50 yards of free (front crawl stroke) with rotary breathing & 50 yards on their back.

Swimming Lesson Requirements: Swimmers should have completed Minnow or Shark Lesson Levels.
FLOATATION DEVICES ARE NOT PERMITTED

Primarily ages 10 & Up
Practice Attendance Goals: 1 - 2 times a week
Required Practice Equipment: Positive Drive Training Fins

Pre Competitive - (PRE) - (AGES PRIMARLY 10 & Under) (Ages may differ due to performance of child) Practice is 90-95% focused on proper swimming technique through performing drills, balance and comfort in water exercises, turns and starts. 5-10% is focused training sets. Most of the training is focused on kicking and kicking drills. There is no meet requirements or team expectations.

Performance Requirements: Pre-Competitive Swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards of free (front crawl stroke) with rotary breathing & 25 yards on their back.

Swimming Lesson Requirements: Swimmers should have completed Guppy or Minnow Lesson Levels.
FLOATATION DEVICES ARE NOT PERMITTED

Primarily ages 4 - 10
Practice Attendance Goals: 1 - 2 times a week
Required Practice Equipment: Positive Drive Training Fins

Practice groups are subject to change due to swimmers ability level.  If a swimmer is unable to attend the assigned practice group contact Coach Mike as soon as possible to request a practice group change.  If it is possible you will be assigned a new group.
